SURF is the collaborative ICT organisation for Dutch education and research. SURF's mission is to enhance the quality of Dutch education and research through innovations in ICT. SURF makes its innovations available on favourable terms and ensures that optimum use can be made of the possibilities offered by ICT. The innovations of SURF have an impact on society that extends further than the institutions themselves. Thanks to SURF: - the Netherlands is now the public Internet hub for all Europe, via the AMS-IX - all Dutch residents have their own personal digital ID card, the DigiD - everyone in the education sector can obtain software on the most favourable terms The SURF cooperative consists of the cooperative office (SURF office) and three operating companies: SURFmarket, SURFnet and SURFsara. SURF services are provided independently by these operating companies, each of which has its own field of operation. The SURF cooperative serves as a joint platform where Dutch research universities, universities of applied sciences, university medical centres, research institutions and senior secondary vocational education institutions work together to develop ICT innovations. SURF was founded in 1987 by the joint universities. At present SURF represents over sixty institutions (academic universities, universities of applied sciences, research centres and centres for documentary information services). SURF is also active in many international collaborative platforms such as JISC, TERENA and GLIF. SURF's Strategic Plan is the guide for its activities. The Strategic Plan covers several years and is formulated by the participating institutions. www.surf.nl/strategic-plan
