The Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (Central San) has been protecting public health and the environment by collecting and treating wastewater from the residents and businesses of central Contra Costa County since 1946. Whatever goes down their toilets and drains travels through our vast sewer system to our treatment plant in Martinez, where we clean an average of 32 million gallons of wastewater every day. Most of that goes back into Suisun Bay, but we do additional treatment of about 2 million gallons each day to produce recycled water for landscape irrigation and industrial uses. We also operate a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility and sponsor several pharmaceutical collection/disposal sites within the communities we serve.
