Dawson College is the largest college in Quebec's CEGEP network. The language of instruction is English, but a diversity of languages and cultures is represented among the students, faculty and staff, reflecting the multiethnic character of Montreal itself. This diversity greatly enriches the lives of all the students and their college experience.
Dawson College was the first English-language institution in the CEGEP network when it opened its doors to 1,200 students in the fall of 1969. Today, the College's student population numbers more than 10,000, with full- and part-time students enrolled in more than 50 fields of study. The College employs more than 1,000 people as teachers, support staff, professionals and managers.
The College is named for Sir William Dawson, a world-renowned geologist and the longest serving principal of McGill University, from 1855 to 1893. Located in the heart of downtown Montreal in a historic building on 12 acres of green space, Dawson has a direct underground link to the Metro system at the Atwater station.
