Cora Inc., which includes Cora Dance - the professional company - and Cora School for Dance - the educational outgrowth of the company - exists to support the choreographic and educational vision of dance artist Shannon Hummel. Through its company, school and studio, Cora brings Hummel's work to the widest possible audience, with particular focus on those lacking performing arts experiences due to limited resources. Cora places as a high priority understanding the values and sensibilities of the communities in which it works. Cora lays common ground between artists and community members by establishing compelling entry points that allow everyone involved to connect deeply with one another through art. Hence, Cora's work has been embraced as much by school children, church congregations and passersby in public parks as by renowned critics and seasoned dance audiences. Founded as the professional company Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance in 1997, Cora opened The Cora Studio in 2009 in Red Hook, Brooklyn as home base for its performance and education programs. Always striving to create access to the arts for everyone, all of Cora's programs are pay-what- you-can.
