Afghanaid is a British humanitarian and development organisation that operates solely in Afghanistan. We began our work in 1983 and despite 30 years of war and turbulence, we have never left. Working alongside men, women and children in some of the most underserved regions of Afghanistan, we enable Afghans to identify their most pressing needs and the most relevant solutions. Our work focuses on the following areas: provision of basic services, improving livelihoods, disaster risk reduction and emergency assistance. Gender rights and good governance underpin a substantial portion of our programming and often form the basis of stand-alone projects. We particularly target vulnerable households – including those headed by women, or with elderly, chronically ill or disabled family members.Together, we find solutions to their problems. Our work gives ordinary Afghans a voice in their own development, making them active participants in shaping the future of their country. Our Vision A peaceful and thriving Afghanistan. Our Mission We work alongside Afghans providing the skills training and tools they need to help themselves, their families and their communities. Afghanaid employs 140 staff – almost all Afghans and 32% of whom are female. We have small programme offices in Badakhshan, Samangan and Ghor provinces and an office in London which provides support for our projects. Our Head Office is in Kabul.
