Since 1981 Saintsbury has been committed to demonstrating that world-class Pinot Noir is a California mainstay. The winery was founded by Dick Ward and David Graves who believe innovation and a critical look at vineyard, terroir and winemaking is the best route to quality. We produce 7 different Pinot noirs (Garnet, Carneros Pinot Noir, Lee Vineyards, Toyon Farms, Stanly Ranch, Cerise Vineyard, and the estate bottled Brown Ranch) in addition to 2 Chardonnays (a Carneros blend and the estate bottled Brown Ranch). We also produce 2 Syrah vineyard designates (Rodger's Creek and Sawi Vineyards). Now at 60,000 cases, Saintsbury remains at the forefront of the Pinot Noir revolution in California and the constant evolution in Carneros winemaking. An important part of the success of Saintsbury has been its unwavering commitment to the vineyards of Carneros as a source of outstanding grapes. The appellation was officially created in 1983, two years after Saintsbury's founding. Another critical factor in our success has been our commitment to sustainable farming and green technology. On the vineyard side, we have received a "Fish-Friendly Farming" and the Napa Valley Vintners "Napa Green Land" certification for our Brown Ranch vineyard, in addition to our devotion to owl and bluebird boxes, beneficial insect "superhighways", compost applications, and a new electric ATV. As of 2007, visitors here will notice our "solar garage" with over 7,000 square feet of photo-voltaic panels, generating 85 kilowatts of electricity when the sun is overhead. We are committed to continuing to implement sustainable and green technologies as a way to reduce our impact on the environment.
