At the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin fÃ¼r Materialien und Energie (HZB), we conduct research on complex energy materials. Our portfolio includes solar cells, solar fuels, thermoelectrical materials, and magnetic materials suitable for new, energy-efficient information technologies such as spintronics. We operate two large scale facilities for energy materials research: the synchrotron source BESSY II and the neutron source BER II. Each year around 3,000 scientists use these facilities.
