Plant species are going extinct at an ever-increasing rate. BGCI is a membership organization, representing and drawing on the extensive skills and expertise of botanic gardens around the world. Linking more than 800 botanic gardens in 118 countries, BGCI forms the largest plant conservation network in the world. BGCI is an international organisation that exists to ensure the world-wide conservation of threatened plants, the continued existence of which are intrinsically linked to global issues including poverty, human well-being and climate change. To make this all happen, we support the development and implementation of global policy – specifically the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) - at a global, regional, national, and local level. BGCI is a membership organisation. At present we have over 700 members in 118 countries. You can join us in our global efforts to ensure plants are protected from the many threats facing them today. BGCI members receive a wide array of benefits. Our regular journals are sent to members and we also offer discounts on BGCI congresses and occassional publications.But much more important, although less directly tangible, are the benefits of being part of the world's largest plant conservation network. Chance meetings, contacts we offer, encouragement, advice and support - all adds up to a valuable and unique service for anyone working in the conservation of living plants!
