THE WORLD'S FIRST LAWN TENNIS CLUB The Club is officially recognised as the world's first lawn tennis club, founded in 1872 by Major Harry Gem some three years before the sport was introduced to Wimbledon. Over the years the Leamington Lawn Tennis Club grew through associations with other local clubs, particularly the Beauchamp Square Club and the Milverton Club. By merging with the Warwickshire Croquet Club in 1948, the Club moved from its then site in St Marks Road to its current site in Guys Cliffe Avenue, and in 1962 the club amalgamated with the Leamside Tennis Club, from which date the Club was formally known as the Leamington Lawn Tennis Club. It was in 1973 that the first squash courts were constructed, and the Club became formally known as the 'Leamington Lawn Tennis and Squash Club'. We are a friendly membership club close to the centre of Royal Leamington Spa and we welcome tennis, squash and racketball players, young or old and regardless of ability. We have excellent facilities both on and off court, an extensive coaching programme to help you improve and a thriving social scene. Whether you are looking for competitive league match, a sociable game at one of our regular club nights or a game with friends we are sure we can meet your needs. Currently we have very ambitious plans for the future development of the facilities, including a new clubhouse, gymnasium and upgraded changing room facilities. We have also recently started to become more commercially aware of the value we have to offer corporate sponsorship partners, not only through our membership of over 1000, but also the heritage, location and community programs we are actively engaged in. There are a number of opportunities that exist for sponsorship, including Squash Courts, Tennis Courts, Junior, Team and Internal programs and leagues, plus exclusive tournaments we are planning on hosting.
