In 1978, Quebec set up a new automobile insurance plan. At the time, the government asked automobile insurers to develop various mechanisms to improve the insurance plan for property damage. This major reform gave rise to Groupement des assureurs automobiles (GAA), who celebrated its 30 years in 2008. Since it was first created, GAA has to guarantee the liability insurance required by law, simpliy how auto claims are settled and reduce costs of automobile insurance in Quebec. All auto insurers doing business in Quebec are members of GAA.
