The Rescue Mission has been serving people in need in Central NY since 1887. Headquartered in Syracuse, NY, the locally-governed non-profit currently provides services in the cities of Syracuse, Binghamton, Auburn and Ithaca. The mission of the organization, which served over 11,000 unique men, women and children last year, is to share hope, end hunger and homelessness, change lives and strengthen communities one person at a time. In Syracuse, the Rescue Mission serves 3 meals a day, 365 days a year to residents and the hungry of the community, and provides a 134-bed men's emergency shelter as well an adult home. At the Syracuse Mission District Campus, Whitney Place in Binghamton and Court Street Place in Ithaca, the organization provides men's supportive and permanent housing, workforce development, assistance with independent housing and spiritual life programs. The Rescue Mission Family Transitions program provides housing options for homeless women and families in Auburn. The organization is funded by a robust Social Enterprise program (comprised of 14 thrift stores and 11 bottle and can redemption centers throughout Central NY), contributions from individual, corporate and foundation donors, and government contracts and program fees.
