Burning Man is an annual event and a thriving year-round culture generated by a global community of participants. The event takes place the week leading up to and including Labor Day in Nevada's Black Rock Desert. The Burning Man organization creates the essential infrastructure of Black Rock City, wherein participants dedicate themselves to the spirit of community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, leaving no trace whatsoever. Apart from the annual event in Nevada, Burning Man's vibrant culture is growing with the help of the Burning Man non-profit organization, which is developing arts, civic engagement and education programs based on Burning Man's Ten Principles that people can replicate in their own communities. The organization's endeavors include The Global Network (http://regionals.burningman.org), made up of 220 representatives in 28 countries across 5 continents, who produce 50 official annual Burning Man events worldwide; subsidiary non-profit Burners Without Borders; and associated non-profits such as Black Rock Solar who embody Burning Man's ethos. Whether our activities take place in Black Rock City or around the world, Burning Man's Ten Principles provide a guiding social and cultural framework for a more creative and connected world.
