GreenRide is a UK based startup developing a ride sharing mobile application within the sharing economy. Our mobile app and full website is coming soon Our mission Our mission is simple - to make roads greener and more sociable through sharing car rides. There is currently 1.6 people on average per car journey in the UK. Through unlocking this potential, we want to reduce the number of cars on the road and offer a sociable alternative to get from A to B. What's in it for drivers? GreenRide offers a convenient way to make money whilst taking advantage of your spare car space. Drivers simply make the journeys that they would be making otherwise and pick up and drop off passengers along the way. Our mobile application will allow drivers to receive a cost contribution towards the running of their car whenever they make a journey by matching them with potential passengers making the same or similar journey. The cost contribution that a driver is allowed to receive is based on HMRC's Mileage Payment Allowance (currently 45p a mile). An average driver can therefore earn upwards of Â£4,500 a year by giving rides to others on the journeys they would be doing anyway. This income is non-taxable, does not need to be declared to the taxman, and guidance from the insurance industry is that car insurance is not impacted by ride sharing if the cost contribution does not exceed the Mileage Payment Allowance. What's in it for passengers? Apart from being a great way to meet new people whilst reducing your carbon footprint, getting a GreenRide is incredibly cheap. Costs are typically 25% of using private hire drivers as the driver is only recovering costs and not seeking to make a profit.
