Since 1975, The Runners Shop has been helping runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts in selecting their footwear. The store's founder, David Ellis, enjoyed a career as an international calibre runner, competing for both Great Britain and Canada in the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. It was this passion and commitment to running that led David to open The Runners Shop. From 1975 to 1997, David and his staff developed a clientele of runners and walkers looking for specialized shoes and product knowledge. When David Ellis retired in 1997, he wanted someone to carry on the tradition of Canada's oldest specialty running store, so he sold the business to Elaine McCrea. Like many others, Elaine purchased her first pair of 'real running shoes' from Dave while she was still in high school. In the years between high school and taking over The Runners Shop she was a competitive runner, studied Kinesiology and worked in specialty running retail for 10 years. She ran her first marathon in 1979 and now, over 30 years later, she's still a passionate runner, competing in marathons like Boston and Berlin. She's not only the owner of the store but also the coach for the popular Runners Shop running club.
