Our Mission-Vision is to Engage, Educate, and Empower 7 Billion Systems Thinkers to solve both everyday and wicked problems. Born at Cornell University, Cabrera Research Lab focuses on systems thinking in three areas: *As a traditional research lab, we focus on advancing basic research in the theory and practice of systems thinking as a field. Our research has led to the discovery of two basic theories that have gained wide acceptance in the field of systems thinking. *We also focus on innovating practical tools and technologies, media and materials for systems thinkers. Our research has led to the development of powerful tools for systems thinkers such as ThinkBlocks, the MetaMap modeling platform, and more. *We're also committed to increasing public understanding and awareness about the importance and power of systems thinking. We strive to make the basic science of systems thinking accessible without loss of fidelity through our books, tools, and blogs. Our story... Concerned that our Ivy League students were extremely proficient at 'doing school' but somewhat lacking in thinking skills like problem solving, creativity, emotional intelligence, and grit, we took our research from the Ivy tower to the trenches. We needed to reach more people. So we started doing talks about our research around the country to anyone who would listen. The talks hit a nerve: the same concern is shared among business, educational and political leaders, as well as parents, teachers, and students. Energized by the overwhelming response, we founded an innovation and research lab with an audacious vision: 7 Billion Systems Thinkers. Ten years later, the movement we started is changing people, schools, and organizations across the US and internationally. Our tools for teaching and learning Systems Thinking through four simple rules are powerful and their message is simple and transformative: when you understand how you think, your ideas can change the world.
