The Charlotte Maxwell Clinic, founded in 1991, is a state licensed free health clinic and the only organization in the nation devoted solely to providing complementary integrative medical treatments and safety-net social services to low-income women with cancer. These treatments - acupuncture, herbs, homeopathy, massage therapy, guided imagery – are all provided free of charge and work alongside conventional treatments. They are powerful tools in managing the disabling side effects of cancer, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Our integrative cancer care ensures that our clients finish their conventional treatments, giving them the best chances for survival. Integrative medicine is rarely covered under health care plans, and not covered under MediCal. Without the services provided by our clinic, low-income women with cancer would not have access to these beneficial treatments.
