Potsdam will soon be able to boast a new landmark: the Museum Barberini. The Barberini Palace on Alter Markt ("Old Market"), which was destroyed by an air strike in 1945, will be rebuilt with its historic façade reconstructed. After its completion, the re-created bourgeois townhouse, which was originally modelled after an Italian palazzo, will become home to works of modern artists. The museum plans to be constructed by the end of 2016. It will showcase Hasso Plattner's collection of paintings by artists from the former German Democratic Republic. In addition, it will also showcase temporary international exhibitions that will enrich Potsdam's profile as a city of the arts. An educational concept for children and teenagers will also be included.
