The mission of Birch Family Services is to provide the finest education, residential, and habilitation services to people with autism and other developmental disabilities and to help their families overcome the lifelong obstacles they face in raising children with special needs. Started in 1975, Birch Family Services is a team of more than 3,000 teachers, therapists, social workers, psychologists, nurses, residence counselors, administrators, board members, and family members. Committed to sharing our expertise widely for the benefit of those we serve, we train hundreds of professionals throughout the tri-state area in our Birch Training Institute. We have served over 15,000 New York families and touch the lives of 1,500 individuals daily. Through our 24 sites throughout New York City, including Washington Heights, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, we provide the following services: Pre-School Special Education through age 4; Head Start and Day Care for typically-developing children, as well as for those with special needs; Special Education for children, adolescents, and young adults ages 5 through 20; Small Supervised Residences for adolescents and adults; Day Habilitation for graduates from the NYC Board of Education; New Frontier Programs to meet the needs of individuals beyond school age; and Family Support Services, including Medicaid Service Coordination, to strengthen and empower families to meet the challenges of parenting children with disabilities.
