We are part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operating on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Through shelter, we empower families in need of decent, affordable housing with the opportunity of a brighter future for themselves in our community. We provide a hand-up, not a hand-out to deserving low-income families who meet our strict criteria. In the homeownership program, families are offered the opportunity to BUY a house on an affordable 0% interest mortgage. In the home repair program, families are offered the opportunity for home repairs assistance with affordable monthly payments. The homeowners'â€‹ monthly mortgage payments and/or repair payments are used to build and repair more homes. Habitat-SCC has completed 395 home construction and repair projects since 1998 in southern Collin County. 91 of these projects were construction of new, safe and affordable houses, transforming the lives of 297 deserving family members, including 169 children. Every new house constructed has a Home Energy Rating of 5-Stars costing approximately $75,000, not including the cost of land. Homeowner Families' mortgage payments and Home Repair Families' payments are used to build more Habitat houses. Habitat-SCC Homeowner Families have paid more than $616,000 in property taxes to Collin County, the cities and schools. It is only with community support that the need for safe and affordable housing in southern Collin County can continue to be addressed. Through donations of money, materials and volunteer labor, we build and repair decent, affordable houses with our homeowner families.
