Our Mission:"To empower people with disabilities to lead the lives they choose." MacDonald Training Center is dedicated to continuously improving the quality of the vocational, employment and residential services we provide to people with disabilities. Our History: MacDonald Training Center (MTC) was founded in 1953 by J. Clifford MacDonald and a group of visionary parents of individuals with developmental disabilities. Our Purpose : MTC strives to shatter the barriers to independence which face people with disabilities. In an effort to increase independence and community integration, MTC was one of the first organizations in Florida to develop supported employment & supported living services as alternatives to sheltered workshops & traditional group homes. Business Services: MacDonald Training Center is committed to provide innovative training opportunities for the people with disabilities we serve, while providing affordable and professional services for our business customers. Recent Accomplishments: MTC's "Advanced Job Skills" is an intensified, time limited training geared to young people graduating high school. Due to the huge success of the pilot "Advanced Job Skills" has become a permanent step in our Job Skills training. Our FDA compliant, "Controlled Environment (CE)" packaging initiative has brought with it a myriad of new skills to be developed. In order to meet the goal of maximizing the potential of this non-traditional area we developed a business plan. The plan was awarded first place in the Children's Board of Hillsborough County Non-Profit Business Plan of the Year Competition. MTC's newest job skills training, is "e-Quality" Recycling. Individuals with disabilities are trained to disassemble electronics for the resale of individual parts. This training program provides a unique opportunity for our trainees as the skills they learn at MTC are the same skills required by community based recycling businesses.
