Kent County Cricket Club is one of the 18 first class county cricket clubs which make up the England and Wales Cricket Board structure; representing the highest level of domestic cricket in England and Wales. Kent Cricket, as the Club is commonly known, represents the historic county of Kent and first came into existence in 1842. In the mid-19th century there were two clubs playing under the name of Kent; Kent County Cricket Club and the Beverley Kent Cricket Club, but in 1870 a decision was taken to amalgamate into one club, to be called the Kent County Cricket Club, with Canterbury as the Club's headquarters. The Club's headquarters remain in Canterbury today, at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, with out-grounds at Tunbridge Wells (The Nevill) and The County Ground, Beckenham. The Club's limited overs team is called the Kent Spitfires.
