Founded by Rev. Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani over 50 years ago and under the leadership of Executive Director Rita Shimmin, GLIDE offers comprehensive support services to San Francisco's poor, homeless and working-poor communities to overcome the barriers of poverty, violence, substance use disorders, dependency and low self-worth. GLIDE's social services were launched in the 1960s when GLIDE congregants organized a Monday night potluck to serve hungry people in the community.
