The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) of Western Australia performs a critical role coordinating emergency services for a range of natural disasters and emergency incidents threatening life and property. Supported by an extensive network of over 29,000 volunteers and 1,100 career firefighters DFES also works together with the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. DFES has adopted an ‘all hazards' approach to emergency management and is the hazard management agency for fire, cyclones, storms, floods, hazardous material spills, earthquakes and tsunami, while also responding to road crashes, land and sea searches.
