The Stabilisation Unit is the UK Government's centre of expertise and best practice in stabilisation including crisis response, upstream conflict prevention and post-conflict reconstruction overseas. The Unit is also home to the Civilian Stabilisation Group, a pool of experts that can be deployed into country operations by SU. The Unit was set up to respond to the complex challenges of fragile and conflict-afflicted states, and works with countries to enhance their capacity for self-governance. The Unit reports to the National Security Council through the officials meeting, and its staff come from a range of government departments as well as serving military and police officers.
