Out for Business at Berkeley is U.C. Berkeley's first student organization that focuses on the dual development of the queer community and the professional success of its members. We seek to intersect queer and professional identity, helping UC Berkeley students become more holistic, engaged contributors to the private sector and queer activism. Our mission is to foster the growth of cultural awareness and inclusivity among the student body. We reach out to under-represented undergraduates to help them transition into business and related industries, providing opportunities and the preparation necessary to maximize their potential. Our work is particularly vital in that we open gateways to industries that have been historically absent of queer representatives. The logic model through which we execute our mission is personalized mentorship and access to corporate networks. We present a professional development series that highlights the careers of successful LGBTQIA professionals. By discussing issues such as being "out" in the workplace, the importance of employee resource groups, and the advantages of bringing one's whole identity to the workplace, we generate a safe environment for discussing issues untouched by both business and queer-oriented organizations.
