Daishowa Marubeni International Ltd. was formed in 1969 when Daishowa Paper Manufacturing Company Ltd. and the Marubeni Corporation came together to build a pulp mill in British Columbia. In the intervening years, DMI designed and built two of Western Canada's most successful mills, including Cariboo Pulp and Paper Company at Quesnel, British Columbia. With a capital investment totaling $580 million, the PRPD pulp mill opened in July 1990. We manufacture approximately 475,000 air dried metric tons (ADMt) of pulp per year, consuming about 60% hardwood and 40% softwood. Our hardwood component consists of 80% Aspen and 20% Black Poplar. Our pulp is sold on the world market to paper producers who use it for a variety of high-grade products as it is internationally renowned for its brightness and quality. Our mill location, 25 km north of Peace River, is ideally situated in the midst of Alberta's vast boreal forest region. This region is one of the richest and most ecologically diverse in Canada and is home to numerous flora and fauna, including conifer trees such as spruce, pine, and fir and deciduous trees such as birch, poplar, and aspen. The region is also populated by a vast array of birds, fish and more than 45 different species of land animals making it an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts.
