Oakman Inns & Restaurants Ltd was founded in 2007, embodied by its first venture, The Akeman in Tring, Hertfordshire. Oakman Inns established the unique concept of the â€˜modern public house', and the company's success has been founded on this market niche. Offering an imaginative Mediterranean and modern British food menu, Oakman Inns are characterised by cooking methods including the Josper Oven and the Wood-Fired Oven, with emphasis on freshness, quality and taste. Established and led by Chief Executive Peter Borg-Neal, Oakman Inns carries its reputation over from Peter's former restaurant venture, Forno Vivo. In addition to The Akeman, the company portfolio comprises of Hertfordshire sites The Kings Arms, Berkhamsted, the first venture with hotel rooms, and the destination site Red Lion, Water End. The first Oxfordshire venue the Old Post Office in Wallingford opened in spring 2009 and was soon followed by the Blue Boar, Witney in 2011 and The Crown & Thistle, Abingdon in 2013. The Beech House Beaconsfield opened in 2013 was the company's first foray into Buckinghamshire and established a landmark move into a more modern High Street vision by converting a former retail outlet which was repeated with the opening of a second Beech House site in St. Albans, Hertfordshire in 2014. The Akeman Inn in Kingswood, Buckinghamshire also opened in 2014 and reiterates the destination-pub concept. Oakman Inns growth plan saw the company expand further afield in 2015 with the opening of The Globe in Warwick, the fifth hotel site, The White Hart in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, The Navigation Inn in Thrupp Wharf, Northamptonshire and The King's Head in Chipping Ongar, Essex. 2016 saw further additions of sites in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire with The Betsey Wynne in Swanbourne Village and Banyers House in Royston. It also saw the third Beech House open in the heart of Solihull in August 2016
