The Conference on Social Welfare provides a fully participatory forum on a local level to stimulate social work's presence in policy analysis and formation. It gives voice to the policy concerns arising from practice by social workers and other human service professionals on a daily basis. This will take the form of facilitated practice and issue focused work groups identifying policy issues that arise from practice and community settings, in order to set the stage for analyzing, formulating and advocating for new social policies. Our objectives are: - To enhance the role of social workers in analyzing, formulating and advocating for social welfare policy - To engage in re-consideration of the changing context for social welfare policy in Cuyahoga County, including attention to the relationship of economic development and the human services. - To identify policy issues arising from practice and community settings in Northeast Ohio. - To enhance collaboration and communication among social workers and other human service professionals and with clients and consumers of social welfare benefits and social services, concerning the need for effective social policies. - To annually send a letter to policy makers and policy advocates asking for input/suggestions into each year's conference content * To provide written feedback to policy makers and policy advocates regarding each year's conference policy, research and advocacy recommendations
