The Hadley Group is the UK's largest cold rolled steel manufacturer. Based in and around Smethwick, West Midlands, the company operates from four UK sites as well as its overseas facilities in Netherlands, UAE, Turkey and Thailand. This privately owned company employs around 500 people worldwide and has a turnover of around £130 million. The company has sought to be at the forefront of advancing the techniques and technologies of cold rollforming, employing 43 people within its in-house Group Technology Academy, the largest of its kind in the UK. Within the Academy is a 10 strong research and technology team which trains and produces world class engineers, dedicated to developing cost-down solutions for clients, with a proactive, customer focused approach which sees them constantly striving to find new innovations to improve customer's businesses. A key determinant of Hadley's success is the internationally patented UltraSTEEL® process that has won the Queen's Award for Enterprise Innovation. A process that has revolutionised the production of steel section components used primarily in the construction industry throughout the world. The worldwide potential of UltraSTEEL® is huge as the process essentially increases the capacity of steel by up to 12%, and as such weighs 12% lighter than conventional steel, increasing fire resistance, improving acoustic entrapment and reducing manufacturing costs. This major technical breakthrough can be developed for use on virtually any light gauge, cold roll formed section or product. Applications to date include vineyard support posts for use in some of the worlds most prestigious vineyards to steel profiles In UAE and Thailand, dedicated UltraSTEEL® lines produce millions of linear metres of section for the burgeoning construction industry throughout the Gulf States and South East Asia. Across Europe, North America and Asia an increasing volume of UltraSTEEL® products are produced by license holders.
