McGard's history begins with L.D. McCauley, Inc., which first began business in 1959, specializing in precision machining for government contracts to NASA and the Military. It was during this era that L.D. McCauley, Inc. became proficient in the machining and processing of the materials currently used in McGard's security systems. In the early 1960's the owner and president of L. D. McCauley, Inc., Mr. Lewis D. McCauley, designed and patented a security nut to prevent the theft of automobile rims and tires. The market demand grew, and distribution networks and dealers were established. L. D. McCauley, Inc. dropped out of the government contract marketplace and devoted its efforts to the manufacture of Wheel Locks. A packaging and marketing facility was required, and in 1964, McGard, Inc. was formed. Today, McGard's quality wheel locks and security fasteners are recognized by automobile companies, car owners, and security users worldwide. Wheel locks and spare tire locks are sold as original equipment to car companies in Asia, Europe, and North America. SPD continues to develop new products and grow in the security market. All customers are serviced from McGard headquarters in Orchard Park, New York, McGard Deutschland GmbH in Nordheim, Germany, and a Branch office in Japan.
