Founded in 1891, the University of La Verne is an independent Southern California institution with a strong emphasis on teaching excellence, community engagement, diversity, and an increasing commitment to research and publications. Classified by Carnegie as a Community-Engaged University, La Verne offers high quality liberal arts and professional degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels to traditional-age and adult learners.
The University is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), with 40% of the student population identifying itself as Latino/Latina, 55% students of color, 10% international students, and a large proportion of first generation university students. All programs have high retention and graduation rates for underrepresented minorities.
La Verne currently engages in the 2020 Strategic Vision, its strategic plan to build the institution's identity around educational excellence and is driven by four strategic initiatives and goals:
