Founded almost 60 years ago by pioneering Australian, Dr Catherine Hamlin and her late husband Dr Reg Hamlin, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is a healthcare network encompassing the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, five regional Fistula hospitals, the Desta Mender rehabilitation centre, the Hamlin College of Midwives and 40 Hamlin Midwifery Clinics across rural Ethiopia. Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is Ethiopian run and led with 550 Ethiopian staff employed across the network. To date the Hamlin team have treated more than 50,000 women who have suffered one of the most horrific childbirth injuries - obstetric Fistula. Hamlin is also relentless in preventing fistula in the first place through recruitment, training and deploying midwives to rural clinics where they are needed - working to ensure every woman has a safe delivery. The Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation, formerly Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (Australia) is an independent charity established in Australia by Dr Catherine Hamlin to raise funds for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia and other partners using the Hamlin Model of Care to eradicate obstetric fistula. Programs supported in 2018 are: > Ethiopia: Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia's six hospitals, the Hamlin College of Midwives, forty midwifery clinics, and the Rehabilitation and Reintegration program at Desta Mender. > Uganda: Terrewode Women's Community Hospital â€“ replicating the Hamlin Model of Care. Dr Catherine Hamlin is our Founder and Patron. Her dream is to eradicate obstetric fistula forever, so that every woman can be free from these atrocious internal injuries.
