The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) serves the City of San Diego – the nation's eighth largest city and California's second largest with a population of 1.3 million. SDHC manages a budget of $349.1 million (FY2013) with more than 260 full-time employees. Every day SDHC impacts the lives of low-income families, seniors, and homeless individuals living in the City of San Diego through our many roles: affordable housing developer; investor and lender to affording housing developers; lender to first-time homebuyers; rental assistance provider through the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8), which currently serves 14,626 low-income households; and provider of housing to address homelessness, including veterans. "We're About People."
