The Lady Lucas Art Company began in 2011 when artist Ashley Lucas decided her calling had a lot more to do with cute characters than conference rooms. Since the beginning, Ashley has offered adorable art to the NYC, Jersey City and Hoboken communities.. Fascinated with old warehouses and commerce from a bygone era, she is inspired daily by the location of her art studio in the Jersey City Powerhouse Arts District. Her great grandparents once owned a bakery directly across from her current location, which offers her much contentment and a sense of place. Her 2018 art collection includes watercolor characters and locations that were dreamed up by Lucas during the last two years. Since a crucial part of appreciating art is to know who created it, Lucas always wanted her name to be found somewhere within her business. A lover of alliteration â€˜Lady Lucas' seemed like the perfect name to describe her. Recently, one of her students asked her how her â€˜art company' was doing. Since her solo business is truly like a small company churning out new art, products and lessons daily, it felt like the ideal words to describe her brand, thus the name, The Lady Lucas Art Company.
