Picture a regular secondary school, jam packed with kids. They all go home by five in the afternoon, and then the school just sits there empty. Isn't that a waste? So in the evenings, weekends and holidays we take over the premises, hire them out, and transform the school into a thriving community hub. Hundreds of people from the local area come in and enjoy the school facilities. Extra tuition, sports coaching and drama clubs are offered to adults and children alike; service providers like the NHS and council Young Offenders groups locate themselves on site. And as well as improving Ofsted reports and pupil performance, we even make some money for the school. The Schools Plus team at each site runs everything to make this possible – relationship management, marketing, bookings, contracts, financials, security, staffing, cleaning, customer service... Basically, each school is run by our entrepreneurs as a self-sufficient little business.
